| Self Description | | I would never give up the right to be wrong about something, because then I would lose the chance to learn something new about myself. I think that's how I learned how to sew and how to iron clothes (no joke). So who (or sometimes "what") am I? Adventurous, courageous, daring, enterprising, romantic, accommodating, a family man...you've probably heard them all. The truth is that I don't fall into any one of these specifically, but I fall into a few of them in one manner or another. I think I'm a good mix of a lot of good things, and like anyone else I've got my idiosyncrasies. So let's see:
Family: I have the most sane "insane family" in the world, and we all take care of each other. I have three nieces, two nephews, two brothers, a sister, and a mother (father passed away five years ago). I seem to be the "favorite uncle" to my nieces and nephews, probably because it's fun to spoil them and then give them back to their parents. And how weird is this: all of my sibs' significant others went to college with them. I think that's the coolest thing in the world!
Friends: Plenty of great friends spread from one coast to the other. I don't seem to be too difficult to get along with. It's harder to get together with some of them, but we have annual get togethers for all of them when they can attend.
Hobbies: Actually, a pretty good mix of them, from automobiles and racing to golf to business enterprise. I have a couple of patents pending and an itch to use them. Movies are good, but I prefer the "tried and true" type that I know are good...I like to get involved in the drama of the moment in these: Hunt for Red October, any of the Star Wars movies, but a good mix of suspense, thriller, horror, and comedy are great as well.
Education: I figured when I finished college I was done with school...yet another thing I was wrong about. I really enjoy learning something new, and Wikipedia is a great place for that, so I frequent that site. As I mentioned, law school is not off the radar, but it's a huge investment.
Work: Yeah, it's a fact of life, so why not enjoy it? Whatever the case, the key is to balance it with a personal life. So as much as I work, I also make a point to take time to play when necessary. My work is somewhat undefined as far as what I actually do (outside of just about everything in my business unit), so I find a good use for all of those business courses I took in college and grad school.
Personality: A bit of Type A and Type B put together. Not split personality at all, but a pretty good balance between them. Certainly not boring! I love to try new things, go new places, and do new stuff - I once boarded a plane to Denver, CO to have dinner at the Denver Diner (a lot of fun). I think I mix as well with intellectuals as I do with aristocrats and trend setters.
Goals in Life: Reach retirement married to someone, and have fun doing it. Of course I have financial goals and all that sort, but I have a few others that fall into this category: spend at least two weeks in Japan, build another house, live on or own a farm, ride the baggage retrieval system at Heathrow Airport, go to racing school, and succeed at owning my own business to name a few.
Significant Other: Definitely I want her to be a part of my life in all aspects. This is a long term investment, not some fly-by-night thing. More to come (?)
Romance: I think this category is so detailed that it would take a separate thesis to describe it. But the highlights, of course, include a lot of laughing, a lot of fun, many challenges, and many successes. Whatever the case, I think I have the right mindset to include love in life.
So that's a picture of sorts. I'm really not up for "reaching the finish line" alone, as it's so much fun doing stuff with other people. What better way than to find someone to share that fun with for the long run? |
